What is the structure of WALL?

Windsor American Little League (WALL) offers five levels of play: T-Ball, Coach Pitch (A), AA, AAA and Majors. Depending upon the level, the playing fields are slightly different in terms of length of base paths, distance from pitching mound, and distance to the outfield fences from home plate.

WALL has established age brackets that players need to participate in, however, there are situations where some players may play down due to safety risks. The players are also grouped to ensure players develop appropriately in terms of skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship.

Here is a break down of the levels and the appropriate age ranges:

T-Ball (5 and 6 year olds)
Coach Pitch (6 and 7 year olds)
AA (8 and 9 year olds)
AAA (9 to 11 year olds)
Majors (10 to 12 year olds)

Pitching distances are scaled to the ability of the players in proportion to the size of the diamonds. The scaled down diamonds in the lower divisions allow the players to make the same plays made by the upper division players on larger diamonds.

WALL is managed by the League Officials. The league is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.

When does the season begin?

Opening Day is May 1st, 2010. Typically, games for Majors, AAA and AA will start the week after Opening Day. The T-Ball and Coach Pitch games will start the next week.

All team schedules will be on the Teams page as soon as they are ready.

How long will the season last?

The season will usually run up to just before school ends, the first week of June.

Where are games played?

All home games for T-Ball, Coach Pitch, AAA and Majors teams are played at Fitch Field. Some AA games are played at JFK school.

What days and times are the games played?

All games will start at 6:00 p.m. on week nights. Games for Majors, AAA and AA are not on any specific days. Games for T-Ball and Coach Pitch will be on either a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesday and Thursday schedule.

Games are never scheduled for Sunday, Mother's Day or Father's Day. The only exception would be during interleague play with Bloomfield or WILL.

Who umpires games?

WALL uses volunteers for Majors and AAA games. The AA games are umpired by coaches or parents of players. There are no umpires for T-Ball or Coach Pitch, coaches manage the flow of the game.

All umpires are encouraged to attend a training clinic.

Are there Time Limits on games?

T-Ball and Coach Pitch games are limited to 1-hour. All other games are only limited by length because of darkness or coaches discretion. Typical game lemgth for AA is 2 hours or 4 innings. Majors and AAA games are 6 innings long.

When will I find out what team my child will play on?

All teams should be formed by April 15, 2010. Your child's manager will notify you of the team's first meeting. If you don't hear from a team manager by April 19, please contact a league official.

What equipment will my child need before the first practice or game?

Players should arrive at their first practice with a glove and proper foot wear. Players at the majors, AAA and AA levels should wear cleats. T-Ball and Coach Pitch players only need sneakers.

A quality leather glove is recommended. Vinyl and simulated leather gloves, although less expensive, are usually more difficult for a child to use resulting in dropped balls.

Having the correct size glove is also important. A glove that is too large for the player can be a disadvantage. Below are the recommened glove size for level of play.

9" to 10" glove for TBall and Coach pitch (5 to 7 years old)
11" for AA (8 to 9 years old)
11" to 11.5" for AAA/Majors (10 to 12 years old)

12" gloves are not allowed for Little League players.

Are there any uniform supplies my child needs?

WALL will supply each player with a uniform. The players at the Majors and AAA level will receive a jersey, pants, hat and baseball socks. The jersey and pants will be returned to the league at the end of the season. The hat and socks are the players to keep. Players at the AA level will get a jersey, pants and hat. The AA players only need to return the pants. The hat and jersey are the players to keep. Players at the T-Ball and Coach Pitch levels will receive jerseys and hats which the players can keep after the season.
