Tryouts

To be determined

Director of Softball Operations:
     Bill Alexander at wfranxav@aol.com
Player Agent Softball:
     Annemarie Edwards at amedwards225@sbcglobal.net

Here is a brief explanation of our rules and regulations for tryouts:
  1. The entire majors division will be redrafted this year. Last year there was only one team and with the addition of new 11 yr-olds and WALL players it is best for competitive balance to redraft the entire division.
  2. Based on the current registration numbers there should be 2 major and 2 AAA teams. Our definition of a full team is 12 per team which means that 48 players will be drafted for the Majors and AAA teams. The draft order is, Majors first then AAA. Based on late registrations the number of teams could change after tryouts or by the draft.
  3. According to LL rules all 12 yr-old must play majors and 9 yr-olds are not permitted to play at the majors level. There are exceptions to this rule:
    1. League age 12 year olds shall play in the Major Leagues, unless the league receives the Parent’s request/permission to have the candidate participate in the AAA program. Typically, this determination should be driven by safety issues and would require the approval of the Player Agent, Vice President of Operations-Softball, Director of Major League and the Director of Minor League.
    2. On an exception basis, a league age 9 year old may be drafted/assigned to a Major league team upon receipt of approval from the Player Agent and Vice President of Operations-Softball. The league must receive Parent’s request/permission to have the candidate participate in the majors program prior to the draft.
    3. League age 7 year olds are encouraged, but are not required to, participate in Tryouts.
    4. The Minors Director in consultation with AA Managers will assign these Players directly to a Minor AA or A team.
    5. All Non-Major 10 year olds, 11 year olds and 12 year olds must tryout (or submit an acceptable written excuse to the Player Agent) prior to being considered for the Major League draft. Any 10, 11 or 12 year old not currently assigned to a Major League team, who does not try out (or is unexcused), will be ineligible for the Major League Draft and will subsequently be considered as a candidate for the AAA draft.
    6. All returning 11 year-old or 12 year-old players are encouraged to participate in Tryouts. These returning players may decide to be excused from tryouts. In such cases returning players wanting to be excused may do so by submitting an acceptable written notice to the Player Agent prior to the draft. The process of assigning a tryout rating for excused Players should be coordinated by the Player Agent and the Vice President of Operations-Softball and the team managers/coaches attending the draft.

Explanation of our softball divisions.

Single A

This Division is designed for league age 6-8 years-old players with limited or no experience. It is also the next step for girls who played Tee Ball the year prior.

There are generally 8-10 players on a team with the number of teams depending on registration. This entry level uses a RIF (Reduced Injury Factor) 10" softball. It is a purely instructional level and focuses on basic skills and rules. All players are placed in the field each defensive inning, thus the advantage of the smaller teams. The coaches pitch the entire season, but a player is placed in the infield to field the position of the pitcher. Toward the end of the season, the coaches may begin to work with those who express an interest in pitching. All players will be placed in the batting order each game and will remain constant for that game. Coaches will change this lineup from game to game to be fair to all players. The offensive team will bat until there are three outs or the entire lineup bats once.

No score will be kept.

Double A

This Division is designed for league age 7-9 years-old players who are more experienced.

There are generally 10-12 players on a team with the number of teams depending on registration. This level uses a Little League approved 11’ softball or in some instances a RIF (Reduced Injury Factor) 11" softball. More traditional rules are used at this level and player-pitching is introduced. All players will be placed in the batting order each game and will remain constant for that game. It is recommended for coaches to change this lineup from game to game to be fair to all players.

Call for Coaches

As we build and strengthen the softball side of the organization we need continued involvement from the parents. Our pressing need is for coaches at all levels: A, AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors. We are not assuming that anyone is coming back or that a spot is being reserved for past coaches. If you are interested in coaching a team or being an assistant coach please let me know soon. Our goal is to have coaches in place by the completion of registrations.
